I have clocked up thousands of hours shooting in helicopters over the past 18 years. Filming everything from Rally Motorsport and Documentaries to Tourism Commercials. In 2014 I was asked to shoot the aerials for UK Top Gear.
I specialise in shooting hand held with image stabilising lenses and also the DJI Ronin Rig.
Check out my heli reel to see what is achievable “hand held”.
For Top Gear the director had two styles of shooting required. The first was the big wide smooth cineflex look which we created using the DJI Ronin. The other was a hard, fast, overcranked eratic feel of speed as his intention was to use 1 to 2 sec shots. We achieved this by simply using the C300 hand held, overcranking and winding in the lens stabiliser.
